ELITISM: DEMOCRACY'S BANE

Democracy is all about equal rights, not because of one's status in life, tribe, gender or age but inspite of it. I was currently in a mind tussle with self-proclaimed intellects, and I do proclaim myself as one, when we got to a point where I was listening more than talking(talk of rare moments). What had me speechless was a theory put forward that reminded me of sophists, which I will share with you.
Mongrels and High-Breeds
According to the theory, much as we want to claim that dogs are dogs, we can't deny that there exists high pedigree dogs and mongrels. So proceeding logically from this self-evident truth, there are high pedigree humans and mongrel humans, and capitalism tends to bring that out very well. However, there is a danger in following this kind of thinking in governance, albeit one favoured by politicians, Kenyan in particular. It leads to an elitist governance and sidelining the masses, defeating the purpose of democracy. To put it clearly, the majority is always wrong, but their voice tends to be strong.

Where else will people murder, plunder and loot public coffers then when justice looms, hide behind the cloak of tribalism and declare their people were being targeted? People only too willing to risk their lives for their leaders, yet after the demonstrations are over, how much more food does the leader put on your plate? I need to be an mp, then I can do all the shit I want. Is that not what its all about?
